The Glass House
Set against a lush tropical landscape, The Glass House was conceived as a transparent pavilion that blurs the boundary between the interior and the natural world. The architecture relies on an exposed steel framework and expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing to create a living experience defined entirely by the surrounding environment.
The Challenge
The primary challenge was balancing the desire for absolute transparency with the need for privacy and climate control in a high-density, humid tropical climate. We needed to ensure the massive glass facades wouldn't turn the house into a greenhouse.
The Solution
We implemented deep cantilevered concrete overhangs to provide passive shading, while utilizing state-of-the-art double-glazed low-e glass. Strategic placement of solid masonry walls on the street-facing side ensures privacy, opening up completely to the private courtyard and pool in the rear.
